…
I never took
a poetry class.
No one has ever stood before me
and pronounced the magic words –
“This is how it’s done.”
The result is
I don’t know how it’s done.
But I write the stuff anyhow.
No one taught a tree
how to spread roots and grow tall.
Despite no previous instruction,
the wind blows.
The stars twinkle
without a diploma on their walls.
So I spread and grow
and blow and yes,
sometimes I even twinkle.
I’m reasonably pleased
with the results.
